What is PDE ?

PDE means Personnal Document Enhancer (Porte Document Electronique in French). It's a dedicated system designed to store, carry and view eletronic documents.
It may look close to a PDA (Personnal Digital Assistant), but a PDA can do many things, with complexity, whereas the PDE only makes reading simple.

The PDE is merging hi-tech gadgets with everyone basic needs...

Why the PDE ?

Long time ago, knowledge communication was based on paper materials. Since ten years, computer writing and imaging are slowly replacing paper works. Today, information production and consumption mainly goes through computer processing and networking.

This revolution, which can compare to Gutemberg works on printing machines, has created a cultural gap between poor populations (unplugged) and connected people.

The PDE is a tool for documents distribution. It is the missing link application providing WEB for everyone.

What is the PDE used for ?

The main function of the PDE is to make a document easy to store, carry and read for everybody, everywhere. . 

PDE can be used just like a book.

Why don't we see more PDE's ?

Most of recent innovative consumer devices are designed to bring more an more power and functionalities in a single item. This helps to enlarge the commercial target and therefore, to reduce production costs. Nobody cares about user's real needs, especially those who cannot afford a notebook or a Wap mobile phone.

 Consumer electronics mainly targets higher social classes. 

When will the PDE be available ?

Experimentations are conducted with notebooks, and will lead to the conclusion that a PC is too expansive and too complex for simple reading. There is an increading demand for a mobile terminal larger than a PDA, cheaper than a tablet PC, and the critical market size will soon be reached. PDE prototypes are ready. Production may come soon...

What is a PDE Editor ?

The PDE application is a very simple editor to build image files from HTML, Word, Jpg, Pdf, ... documents captured from your PC. The final documents can be displayed with explorer, with the viewer, or printed. PDE is ideal for teachers wanting to build their own school manuals from the WEB and to dispatch them to student's low cost terminals.

The Personnal Document Enhancer is now avaible: the iREX

		The iRex tablet is available. It is a PDA format A5 using electronic ink, the new technology that reduces consumption to a ridiculous level. Most of graphical formats can be displayed. It is delivered with the stylus that enable document editing and graphical notes. Character recognition is an option. Documents are loaded from a PC via USB or Wifi link. Call us for more details.

What about the Sony Reader ?

		The Sony reader is a mobile device than can easily stand for a PDE. Ligth, simple, inexpensive, elegant, it is probably a major step in history of electronic books. We are currently studing how we can use it as PDE for industrial or school applications. Let us know if you already had the chance to use it.
